Oxfam GB is a global community that fights poverty and partners with local communities in humanitarian areas. The Oxfam Global Humanitarian Team releases a vacancy for the Public Health Engineering Lead in the WASH sector.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must have WASH experience in large humanitarian works or emergencies on at least two continents, which includes WASH activities across various areas. 
  • You have proven experience in critical thinking and the ability to take the initiative to define and shape the departmental strategies. 
  • You must have the relevant skills, such as conceptual thinking, decision-making in critical situations, organization, and communication skills. 
  • You must be able to handle a wide audience and have the relevant communication skills.
  • You must have experience in leading a big team, understand the humanitarian issues, such as AIDS, HIV, diversity, accountability, protection, and others, to execute the humanitarian projects. 
  • You must have a good command of English (written or verbal) and have an understanding of the commitment to humanitarian works. 
  • You must be able to travel for 12 weeks a year to vulnerable areas or environments for humanitarian work on short notice. 
  • If you know Arabic, French, or Spanish, you will be preferred for this job role. 
  • You must have the experience of advocacy, or if you can influence the political or government decision on public health and engineering issues at international meetings, you will be preferred for this job role.

  • As PHE lead, you will lead the WASH sector in Oxfam and ensure that the sector standards and learning are spread widely, and it strives for innovative ideas in the sector.
  • You must ensure that PHE responses are of high quality through adapting to the new development, building and strengthening the response accountability. 
  • You must ensure Oxfam’s Public Health Engineers meet the technical excellence and guide the workers to work efficiently. 
  • You will ensure the community participates and their participation shapes the decisions and program implementation, and follow all the humanitarian principles. 
  • You will need to build and nurture partnerships with local organisations, communities, and government bodies to strengthen the collaboration and respect the local knowledge and capabilities.
