Eligibility

• You must have completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Design Engineering, or a related field.  Even if your PhD is not yet completed, you can still apply, but your appointment will be as a research assistant.
• You should have practical experience in a research environment and/or publications in relevant and peer-reviewed journals, as well as proficiency in a broad range of techniques, including structural or mechanical design and analysis and experimental testing.
• You should have adequate knowledge of structural engineering principles, CAD, numerical analysis, and optimization tools.
• You must have the ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature, develop and apply new concepts, organize your own work with minimal supervision, prioritize your own work in response to deadlines, and have a creative approach to problem-solving and excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people.

If you have experience dealing with vibration and vibration mitigation problems and in the design or construction of lightweight flooring systems, you will be preferred for the appointment.

Key Responsibilities 

After being appointed as a research associate within the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London, you have to get involved in the following day-to-day activities:

• The first is Research and Scientific Work, in which you will have to plan your own research activities, design and improve research methods, tools, and equipment, collect, analyze, and interpret data, and ensure that the data is accurate, reliable, or properly recorded.
• The second is publication and reporting, which involves writing technical reports for research sponsors and funding bodies, publishing your research in peer-reviewed (refereed) journals, and presenting your research to colleagues and at national and international conferences.
• The third is Team Leadership & Supervision, which involves leading a small research team and guiding PhD students, undergraduate and postgraduate researchers, and research assistants.
• The fourth is collaboration and networking, which involves research collaborations within Imperial College, across London, and internationally, and working together with scientists, engineers, technicians, and students.

All of the above are your key responsibilities. In addition, you will have other duties, which include grants & research funding; meetings, training & professional development; laboratory & safety responsibilities; and administrative & other duties.
