AGNES Africa Early Career Climate Fellowship

AGNES released the Early Career Climate Fellowship post on Climate Justice and equitable Climate finance across Africa in collaboration with the Equal Rights Organization. The last date to apply for the fellowship position is 23 January 2026 at 23:59 PM EAT. 

The fellowship offers an opportunity for the skilled and motivated professional to participate in policy work across the continent and advocate for fair climate governance and support government frameworks. This fellowship aims to support and strengthen the engagement with Africa’s institutions and regional policies. 

The organization and AGNES wish to advance climate policies and equitable finance across Africa for the climate and environment goals. The fellowship will be a full-time job that will go on for a period of 6 months; it can be renewed based on funding availability and the candidate’s performance. 

AGNES Africa Early Career Climate Fellowship: Eligibility

If you are interested in applying for the AGNES Early Career Climate fellowship, you should first check the following eligibility conditions:

• You must be an African national residing in Nairobi, Kenya. 
• You must have a great understanding and knowledge of the African environment, climate policies, and multilateral processes. 
• You should hold a bachelor’s degree in environment, climate change, and natural resources, finance, economics, law, and social science, or other related fields of climate justice, and have a minimum of two years of experience. 
• If you have a master’s degree in the respective field, there will be a high chance of selection. 
• You should be passionate about working and learn about the climate, interdisciplinary, and multicultural environment. 
• The authority requires you to have both verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, innovative, and creative skills to be a part of this climate justice program.  

AGNES Africa Early Career Climate Fellowship: Key Responsibilities

If you work at AGNES Africa as the Early Career Climate fellow, you would be responsible for the following work:

• You will represent the Equal Rights Organization and AGNES in strategic operations, and you will also get to work with high-level institutions, such as:

• The African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN), 
• The African Union (AU)
• Participate in National and regional meetings related to African climate governance. 

• You will be working with multiple teams, multicultural teams, and interdisciplinary teams in Africa. 
• You will be assisting in explaining and integrating the Equal Rights Cap and Share Policies model, understanding the Universal Basic Income (UBI) ideas related to continental policy targets. 
• You will assist in organizing the policy meetings, running the technical works and supporting work related to policy dialogues. 
• You will draft the advocacy briefs, messages, papers, and policy statements to engage the regional spaces and institutions’ decisions. 
• You will do the monitoring and report on the policy development on climate justice and finance policies across Africa to the AGNES and Equal Rights Organization.  
• You will have the opportunity to work for AGNES and get involved in climate governance across Africa.  

AGNES Africa Early Career Climate Fellowship: Document Required

• Cover letter of maximum one page, defining why you are the best candidate for the fellowship and what you will do.
